The rugby tradition in Serbia is very long. The first match of Serbian rugby players, refugees from the First World War, was played in 1918 in Edinburgh in front of 10,000 people. The team called “Serbia” defeated the selection of British dominions by 8:3.
Rugby 7 as an Olympic discipline is also represented in Serbia. Contests are held in both competitions, and the men’s national team is in Division B. The greatest successes are winning first place in Division B in Latvia in 2011 and the second – four years later in Zagreb.
