Second day of the visit to Belgrade the EUSA delegation, in the company of the EUG 2021 director Mr Predrag Juskovic and associates, was received by the rector of the University of Belgrade, Ms Ivanka Popovic. In a very constructive dialogue, all parties expressed satisfaction with the work done in the organization of the fifth European Universities Games in Belgrade, which will be held from 14 to 27 July 2021.
Director Mr Juskovic presented the current situation in terms of preparations for the largest sports competition in Europe next year, emphasizing the great support of the state in all infrastructural works related to both sports and accommodation facilities.
Rector Ms Popovic gave full support to the EUG 2021 project and pointed out the great satisfaction with the work done on the reconstruction of the Student City, which will be the biggest legacy of sports competition to the academic community and raise the standard of student life in the coming years.
“The Games are an extremely important event at the national level. Not only for the University of Belgrade, but in general, for all universities in Serbia and the city of Belgrade, “said Rector Ms Popovic, who also emphasized that the academic community expects the organization of the Rectors’ Conference during the Games.
On behalf of EUSA, Secretary General Mr Matjaz Pecovnik pointed out the excellent cooperation with the organizational team of EUG 2021 at all levels and the joint readiness to do everything to keep the Games at the highest possible level. According to Mr Pecovnik, the visit to Belgrade was also a way to let all partners and federations know that the activities of the organization did not stop.
The EUSA delegation with the leaders of EUG 2021 also visited the renovated SC “Sumice” where they could see on the spot the improved conditions in one of the sports facilities that will host student-athletes from all over Europe.
